GameInvest announced the upcoming game Defenders of Law, Inc. for Nintendo DS, Wii, and PC on Tuesday. In the point-and-click adventure, players will take control of one of five lawyers as they investigate murders and take their cases to court. Sound like a certain pointy-haired lawyerwho has starred in several handheld adventures? The similarities are pretty striking.
To be fair, the screenshots do give this game a murkier look than the colorful Wright series. Rather than splitting playtime into multiple mysteries, Defenders of Law, Inc. focuses on one case, which unfolds over the course of 15 days. Players will search for evidence and analyze it in the lab in-between court sessions. The actual courtroom drama unfolds via a game of cards against the prosecutor and promises multiple endings based on how you play your hand, ensuring some replay value for a game that's purported to be 40 hours to start with.
"We created complex criminal heroes in Defenders of Law, Inc. as a way to draw players into a story that feels like a really good crime novel," said GameInvest CEO Paulo Gomes. While it may not be a completely unique idea, it could scratch the itch of lawyer fans anticipating the next in Capcom's similar series, and it seems to be spinning the lawyer sim sub-genre into a rather different direction.
